These are just some of the reasons that you might turn to online learning. This section includes options for free, on-demand, self-paced courses focused on child abuse prevention and family strengthening.

  • California Child Welfare Training (CACWT)  CACWT’s e-learning platform is intended to streamline, standardize, centralize, and improve the deployment of child welfare training across the state. Free, publicly accessible child welfare courses can be found in the CACWT learning management system’s Course Catalog within the Community Partners tab. 
  • The California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS)  CIBHS offers a wide array of high-quality virtual and in-person behavioral health conferences, workshops and trainings, and on-demand courses for public mental health staff, managers, and students.

  • California Child Welfare Training (CACWT) CACWT’s e-learning platform is intended to streamline, standardize, centralize, and improve the deployment of child welfare training across the state. Free, publicly accessible child welfare courses can be found in the CACWT learning management system’s Course Catalog within the Community Partners tab. 
  • The California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS)  CIBHS offers a wide array of high-quality virtual and in-person behavioral health conferences, workshops and trainings, and on-demand courses for public mental health staff, managers, and students.
  • Children’s Trust Fund Alliance (CTFA)   CTFA’s online courses support implementation of the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework and are for anyone who works with children and families, including parents, practitioners, and supervisors. The curriculum includes materials on partnering with parents and addresses promising strategies to strengthen families. Courses are free but CEUs may be obtained for a fee.
  • FRIENDS Online Learning Center   The  FRIENDS Online Learning Center is a resource designed to meet the demands of providing high-quality, subject-specific training free of charge for CBCAP State Lead Agencies and their grantees and others.   
  • Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE)   The Spreading HOPE 2-hour online learning course provides foundational information about adverse and positive childhood experiences, how they affect adult health, and how to incorporate a HOPE-informed approach to working with children, families, and communities. CEUs are available for various disciplines.
  • Institute for the Advancement of Family Support Professionals   Offers Family Support Professionals the opportunity to learn new skills and grow their careers. Modules are based on the National Core Competency Framework and are organized in 10 domains: Infant and Early Childhood Development, Parent-Child interactions, Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition; Dynamics of Family Relationships, Family Health, Safety, and Nutrition; Community Resources and Support, Relationship-based Family Partnerships, Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness, Effective Home Visits, and Professional Practice.
  • National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWII) Online Learning Portal   Access engaging, interactive online learning that builds skills in leadership, workforce development, and change implementation. These tools are available to anyone and can be used by supervisors and managers, training departments, and implementation teams.
  • National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) Learning Center   The NCTSN Learning Center for Child and Adolescent Trauma offers more than 200 webinars and training modules. Continuing Education credit is available for many courses.
  • Sesame Street Communities   Interactive online courses, training videos, and recorded webinars that support community providers to foster families’ and kids’ resilience, nurture their physical and mental health, and provide critical early learning opportunities.
  • Trauma ScreenTIME  Developed by the Child Health and Development Institute in collaboration with families and national experts including the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, is an online training course on how to screen children for trauma. ScreenTIME provides staff working with children and youth the knowledge to effectively screen children for trauma and connect families with their preferred supports and services to help children recover from the effects of trauma exposure. The course is available at no cost to child-serving professionals. Continuing education credits are available.
  • Wellbeing for LA Learning Center Access a variety of courses, printable tools, and videos from the UCLA Prevention Center of Excellence (COE) to support professional well-being and trauma—and resilience-informed spaces on the Wellbeing for LA Learning Center. A free account is required to access resources and courses.
