In this 2-hour webinar, participants will learn about the unique concerns of parents with disabilities, their interactions with child welfare and other services, and evidence-based practices to support parents and caregivers with intellectual, physical, sensory, and other disabilities.

Learners will:

  • Identify the “big six” disabilities and how parents with one or more disabilities may interact with services.
  • Explain the intersection of parental disability and other minoritized identities in child welfare inequities.

  • Identify three ways to increase accessibility in their interactions with parents with disabilities.

  • Name three outcomes of using disability status in child welfare decision-making.

  • Build case plans with a disability-centered ethic of care.

  • Learn what evidence-based practices currently exist to support parents with disabilities, what makes them appropriate, and how to modify existing resources to meet the needs of a diverse client population.

Who Should Attend: All staff of family resource centers (FRCs), Child Abuse Prevention Councils (CAPCs), community-based organizations, and other child- and family-serving systems.
