The concept of trauma-informed care has received extensive attention over the last 10 years. Trauma-informed practices have been designated across multiple types of service systems, including child welfare, mental health, juvenile justice, and substance abuse, among others. To date, the primary focus has been on supporting the organization and its employees to utilize a trauma-informed approach with the clientele served. However, considering recent national and global events, a broader trauma-informed leadership approach at an organizational level is warranted. This presentation is designed for leaders across services and systems who want to empower and engage the current workforce. Drawing from the literature on effective leadership, implementation science, and trauma-informed care principles, this presentation will highlight the four pillars of a trauma-informed leadership approach and provide concrete strategies for leaders to assist them in integrating trauma-informed principles into their practice. It will also provide strategies to effectively balance a compassionate leadership approach with holding themselves and others accountable to this work.

 

After this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify three reasons why a trauma-informed leadership approach is beneficial to an organization
  • Name the four pillars of a trauma-informed leadership approach
  • Identify four concrete strategies that they can implement in their organization to become a more trauma-informed leader

 

El concepto de cuidado informado sobre el trauma ha recibido gran atención en los últimos 10 años. Se han designado prácticas informadas sobre el trauma en múltiples tipos de sistemas de servicios, incluidos el bienestar infantil, la salud mental, la justicia juvenil y el abuso de sustancias, entre otros. Hasta la fecha, el objetivo principal ha sido apoyar a la organización y a sus empleados para que utilicen un enfoque basado en el trauma con la clientela a la que atienden. Sin embargo, teniendo en cuenta los recientes acontecimientos nacionales y mundiales, se justifica un enfoque de liderazgo más amplio e informado sobre el trauma a nivel organizacional. MEET THE SPEAKER

 

Lisa Conradi, Psy.D. is the Executive Director at the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego. In this role, she oversees all programming at the Chadwick Center, a children’s advocacy center which houses one of the largest trauma treatment centers in the nation. She has significant experience in the field of child trauma and in supporting service systems to become more trauma-informed. She has led implementation of trauma-focused evidence-based practices for children, adolescents, and their families and the development of resources designed to help systems become trauma-informed. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and is trained on evidence-based trauma-focused treatment practices, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). Dr. Conradi received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of California, Davis and her graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, California. She is co-author of the recent book, Trauma-Informed Assessment with Children and Adolescents: Strategies to Support Clinicians.
