TRAINING DETAILS:
This workshop will discuss Tribes, Tribal sovereignty, and the array of services often provided by Tribes to their citizens. You will learn best practices for community-based organizations to engage and build partnerships with Tribes and Tribal organizations to provide services to tribal citizens. This workshop will also share how Tribes and Tribal organizations have always been community-based prevention practice innovators, and how community-based organizations can celebrate and learn from these innovators in partnership work.
Participants will:
- Understand why and how partnerships with Tribal governments, Tribal organizations, and Tribal providers are a key component in providing culturally-relevant services to Tribal citizens.
- Learn engagement strategies for cultivating partnerships with Tribal governments and Tribal organizations.
Who should attend: All staff of family resource centers (FRCs), Child Abuse Prevention Councils (CAPCs), community-based organizations, and other child- and family-serving systems.
IMPORTANT TRAINING INFORMATION:
- This is an interactive training. Please be prepared to participate in activities such as group discussion, breakout rooms, and/or demonstration. Your training experience will be best with the use of a webcam, audio, and a training environment conducive to active participation.
- This training will be recorded. The recording will be available to registered learners within 2 days of the training.

MEET THE SPEAKER
Geneva Shaw has been a full-time Social Work Department faculty member at Humboldt State University since 2014 and served four years as the Department’s MSW Director. She has spent the last 12 years working as an administrator, direct practitioner, and technical assistance provider of social work in Tribal communities of Humboldt and Del Norte Counties, in addition to being a lifelong resident. For six of those years, she worked for the Yurok Tribe writing, developing, implementing, and reporting on many state and federally-funded programs to provide programming, including Indian Child Welfare, Tribal TANF, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Youth Prevention/Intervention, Food Distribution, Emergency Services, and much more. Geneva is a 2008 graduate of the MSW Program at Humboldt State University (HSU). She is a federally recognized member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe and is of Karuk, Yurok, and Apache descent.
